Heidi Thorsteinson is the heart and soul behind every batch of delicious custom cookies, which have been hitting sweet spots in and around Steveston, Richmond and Vancouver since 2004.
Here’s Heidi’s story in her own words…
I fell in love with baking when I was a little girl. I learned with my grandmas, my aunts and, of course, my mom. I baked mini-chocolate chip cookies and mini-chocolate cakes using my Betty Crocker oven and, when that eventually broke, I upgraded to my mom's toaster oven.
This baking tradition continued into my adult years, and expanded to include gingerbread cookies, gingerbread houses, shortbread cookies, and much more. In fact, I’d often take days off work to complete treats.
When my children started in preschool, instead of bringing cupcakes and cakes for their birthdays, I’d make a platter of mini decorated sugar cookies for their classmates and package cookies individually to give out after class.
One day, a teacher asked me if I could make wedding cake cookies for her niece’s wedding reception. I was so excited about the opportunity, I went straight home and started sketching special wedding cake cookie designs.
Word about my custom cookies spread quickly. With all sorts of requests coming in, I scouted kitchen stores in Richmond, Vancouver and the entire Lower Mainland, not to mention eBay, for all the cookie cutters I could find. Today, I have more than 1,000 cookie cutters, and counting.
Thanks to some wonderful write-ups and the continued support of my custom cookie clients, I’m able to take pleasure in my passion, and make people happy one cookie at a time. If my cookies are able to make someone's day, or add a special touch to a party, this is all that I could ask for.
Also, as my son has a severe peanut and nut allergy, I am able to provide peanut- and nut-free baked goods, so children and adults alike can dig in worry free.
